REIKI FOR CHILDREN

Reiki for children is a versatile and gentle practice that can be adapted to meet the unique needs of each child. Whether used as a standalone therapy or in conjunction with other forms of care, Reiki has the potential to contribute positively to a child's overall well-being *.

There are some key Considerations:

  1. Age-Appropriate Sessions: Reiki sessions for children are usually shorter than those for adults, considering the attention span and comfort of the child. The practitioner may use playful or calming techniques to engage the child during the session.

  2. Parental Involvement: For younger children, it is common for parents to be present during the Reiki session. This helps create a familiar and secure environment, ensuring the child feels at ease.

  3. Balancing Energy: Reiki aims to balance the energy within the body, promoting relaxation and reducing stress. For children, this can be particularly beneficial in addressing issues such as anxiety, sleep disturbances, or challenges related to attention and focus.

  4. Enhanced Well-Being: Just like with adults, Reiki for children is believed to enhance overall well-being. It may contribute to improved mood, increased resilience, and a sense of calmness.

  5. Respect for Boundaries: Reiki practitioners understand the importance of respecting a child's boundaries. Sessions are conducted with the child's consent

TEACHING AND INITIATING CHILDREN IN REIKI

Many of the Reiki students often ask me this question: Is it okay to teach and give Reiki attunements to children?

The answer is YES! but with certain conditions:

  • We can give Reiki initiation for Reiki Level 1 to children age 7 and up.
  • Reiki Level 2 can be given to children age 12 – 14.
  • Higher Reiki levels should be given to high school students.

Note: The children should use Reiki energy only for themselves and not to treat other people. This is because of two reasons:

  1. The subtle energy layers of a child (the aura) are still developing, and it is not advisable to expose their aura to negative energies and diseases from other people.

  2. During a Reiki treatment, there is a small risk that the therapist may collect negative energies from the client. This is why therapist perform certain self-purification techniques at the end of each Reiki treatment session. Children may not be as cautious, increasing the risk of negative side effects.
